We did it folks! We’ve made it through the flurry of game releases – better known as “September” – and we live to write another day! Though October looks just as busy… *gulp*

Here at Nintendo Life, we’ve been through the unofficial Super Mario Bros. 5 fan game, made entirely in Super Mario Maker 2, going silly with life sims and praising the old Lord of the Rings RPGs. It’s also been an exciting week as we found out that not only would Cuphead be getting a physical release, but we also got our first look at Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s newest Mon Wiglett – he’s quite an odd little fella!

Now that we’ve gotten a hands-on look at Sonic Frontiers, perhaps this weekend we’ll focus on some of the Hedgehog’s earlier adventures in preparation. Or maybe, after sharing our thoughts on Tunic and reviewing Let’s Build a Zoo, we’ll check out both!

Well, below you can find out what our wonderful writers will be playing once they’ve shared their weekend game schedules. As always, we want to hear from you too! Read it through, then be sure to share your video game plan in the comments below – enjoy!

I bought myself a Splatoon 3 OLED as a birthday present – and my goodness, that screen really makes a difference, doesn’t it? I’ve dived into Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (again) and the colors really pop on the OLED – I know it doesn’t play great in handheld mode, but my Xenoblade play in bed has improved tenfold. Do I already have enough to do? Of course not. I can’t put it down even though I’m in postgame!

Otherwise I’m gearing up for some of the big October releases. I’m going back to Bayonetta and finally checking this out of my backlog and also revisit Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. And in terms of new stuff, I’ll give Let’s Build a Zoo a spin. Spliced animals? What a horror show! But I’m all in.

There’s a lot I am hoping to play this weekend. The amount I want actually Gambling can be a different discussion – one that depends entirely on how I’m feeling about my bank balance.

Let’s be optimistic here. I really want to sink my teeth into Tunic and Shovel Knight Dig. Admittedly, two very different games, but still ones that immediately grabbed me with their graphics – see any of them on the OLED? Chef’s kiss.

I’ve also yet to crack open my copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, so it would be great to get some totally tubular action if I can find time between those new purchases. As reliable as I’m getting, in the meantime there will no doubt be some Splatoon 3-ings – consider me really hooked.

I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to play this weekend, but I’ll try to add a bit more Bayonetta 2 here and there if possible. I’m on the verge of finishing it now, so I just want to finish it. Other than that, there’s not much else I want to dive into! I’d love to buy Return to Monkey Island soon, but I’m going to replay the first two games first to refresh my memory a bit, so that’s on hold for now.

As my journey in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 draws to a close, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the eShop absolutely blew up this week. Shmup junkies like me have more than covered with Moon Dancer, and both versions of Bullet Soul are among the genre’s finest. 16-bit shoveling action is guaranteed with Shovel Knight Dig, oppressive soul-like Metroidvania is littered with moonscars, zen city-building takes place in village romance, and mesmerizing trains ride RAILGRADE. Meanwhile, The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero physical box teases me about my JRPG time slot. 48 hours just isn’t enough this time!

Game of the week is tunic. It’s been a long and hard wait for this gem to land on the Switch, but it was worth it; it really is something very special.

This weekend I’ll be… mainly working on my side projects. courting! But also AI: The Somnium Files will be dropped from Game Pass soon, so I’ll try to finish it before then. And since I’ve finally finished 13 Sentinels (wooooo!), I might be able to start with Danganronpa, which I bought at one of the recent sales. I’ve played it before, but I want to play it again.

As always, thanks for reading! Leave us a comment below with your game plans for the weekend!
