AV receivers might be the nerve center of any serious home theater setup, but these big (and usually shiny and black) boxes aren’t exactly the prettiest things to look at. However, Marantz’s new Cinema range of 8K Dolby Atmos AV receivers could be the first to offer people a real alternative to the button-filled flat-screen aesthetic we’ve become accustomed to. The new models start at $1,200 for the Cinema 70s and go up to $7,000 for the flagship AV 10. They will be available through the end of October, although only the Cinema 50 and 60 will be released initially.
In addition to a new textured finish adorning the side panels of the cinema’s front panels, each model features an elegant circular display window that can either act on its own as the main display for critical status information, or can be used to expand a much larger full display hidden behind a hinged cover. But the design improvements are more than superficial. The Cinema series also features a new graphical user interface as well as voice command compatibility.

The flagship of the Cinema line is a 15.4-channel beast, but unlike the rest of the Cinema line, it’s a preamp, meaning you need a full-on, dedicated amp to get the sound to your speakers . But we suspect you wouldn’t mind shelling out an extra $7,000 for the Marantz Amp 10, the 15.4-channel amp designed to go with it, if you’ve got the kind of home theater setup that the Capabilities of the AV 10 would be the perfect companion to the AV 10.
