Simon Thompson, Chief Executive of Royal Mail, said: “Every British postage stamp for the last 70 years has been personally authorized by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
“Today we unveil these stamps, the first to be authorized by His Majesty the King, in tribute to a woman whose dedication to public service and duty was unparalleled in the history of this country.”
A presentation pack containing all four stamps costs £6.95 and can be pre-ordered from the Royal Mail website.
The Royal Mail has also confirmed that the King’s image will replace the Queen on new 1st and 2nd class definitive stamps and all other value stamps. Special stamp issues will also feature a silhouette of Charles.
“New stamps featuring King Charles will be put into circulation once current stocks of stamps have been exhausted,” the Royal Mail said.
Images of the new stamps, when they will be released and the new silhouette will be announced at a later date.
The Royal Mail said: “In line with the instructions of the Royal Household, existing stocks of definitive stamps featuring the late Queen and the commemorative stamps using her silhouette will be distributed to minimize the environmental and financial impact of the change of monarch and will be issued as planned. The launch dates of some commemoratives are subject to change.”
