sorry, when did it become october? Well, we suppose it’s time to throw back September for our monthly dose of eShop Selects!

It’s fall (or fall, depending on what term you want to use for the season of crispy leaves). The nights are falling. The temperature sinks. And the Christmas season is fast approaching – we know it forgiveness. But that means there are a lot of video games coming our way, and you need to know which are the best that you can find on the eShop.

What games will put a smile on your face and keep you all nice and cozy when the cold weather sets in? Continue reading…

Honorable Mentions:

Unless you’ve been living under your covers for the last month then you know September was packed – this is one of our biggest lineups ever for eShop Selects! So if you don’t like our top 3, then here’s a healthy dose of excellent eShop titles for you:

Radiant Silvergun (Switch eShop)

Radiant Silvergun (Switch eShop)

Publisher: live wire / Developer: Treasure

Release date: 09/13/2022 (United States of America) / 09/13/2022 (UK/EU)

Well… that was a lot of 9/10s, wasn’t it? How about another? Treasure’s classic Sega Saturn shmup Radiant Silvergun surprised us during a Nintendo Direct by releasing it on the same day it was announced! We kind of knew it was coming thanks to a Tokyo Game Show presentation schedule, but it’s actually here – after a little eShop snafu in North America.

And thank goodness because that game is still going strong almost 25 years later. It’s bold, beautiful, brilliant, brave, blessed and maybe one of the best shmups of all time. And while it’s often brutally difficult, Story Mode offers a more inviting introduction to a genre-bending classic.

We’re basically blown away. Find out everything we love about the Radiant Silvergun in our review.

Tunic (Switch eShop)

Tunic (Switch eShop)

Publisher: Finji / Developer: TUNIC team

Release date: 09/27/2022 (United States of America) / 09/27/2022 (UK/EU)

We knew that would have eventually coming to Switch – it’s a cute little one Legend of Zelda foxish game!? And tunic does not disappoint. After receiving critical acclaim on Xbox and PC earlier this year, Tunic feels truly at home on a Nintendo console.

Don’t let the cuteness fool you though, as there’s a meaty amount of Dark Souls Eqsue combat to sink your teeth into. On top of that, the game is also a love letter to old video game manuals. The in-game manual that we’ve already covered invites you to step back into your childhood, when you sat in front of the NES and SNES and wrote down solutions. It’s wonderfully charming.

Check out our 8/10 rating from Tunic for more awesome fox fun.

Return to Monkey Island (switch eShop)

Return to Monkey Island (switch eShop)

Publisher: Devolver Digital / Developer: Terrible toy box

Release date: 09/19/2022 (United States of America) / 09/19/2022 (UK/EU)

Guybrush Ulysses Threepwood rejoined us on Talk Like A Pirate Day and we’ve never been happier. Return to Monkey Island is just that – a return to one of the best point-and-click series ever made, with Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman showing us how, and then some.

It’s a nostalgic journey with fresh feelings, a celebration and a look at all that came before, finely crafted with all the wit we’ve come to know and love. It’s totally intuitive on Switch, too. Hardly a grain of sand is out of place, and it sparkles like a treasure we’ve kept all this close to us. You don’t have to walk the plank with this one.

Haven’t you checked out Guybrush’s gorgeous return? Our 9/10 rating should convince you to set sail.

< Nintendo Life eShop Selection – August 2022

This is how we decide our eShop Selects Top 3: At the end of each month, Nintendo Life staff vote on their favorite titles from a list of games handpicked by the editors. To qualify for this list, these games must have been released as a digital-only Nintendo Switch eShop title and reviewed on Nintendo Life in that specific month; We select the qualifying games based on their rating results.

Staff are then asked to vote for three games that they feel deserve to be at the top of this list. The first choice gets 3 points, the second choice 2 points and the third choice 1 point. These votes are then tallied to create a top 3 list, with the overall winner receiving the top prize of the month.
