Chelsea recovered from an early setback to beat West Ham in the Women’s Super League at Kingsmeadow.
West Ham captain Dagny Brynjarsdottir went unmarked as she put the visitors ahead after two minutes.
Defending champions Chelsea reacted when Fran Kirby equalized before half-time.
Striker Sam Kerr, hitting the post twice, eventually scored the second for Chelsea before Millie Bright’s header made it 3-1 for the hosts.
Chelsea dominated the second half and should have scored more goals as substitute Lauren James won a penalty but goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold failed to score from the penalty spot.
Watched by her brother and England international Reece James, Lauren once again impressed with a brief appearance from the bench.
Kerr, on the other hand, had a frustrating evening but she caused plenty of problems for West Ham’s defence.
Lucy Parker, the received its first assignment in England Tuesday did well to keep her at bay for long, but Kerr’s quality showed when she hit the post powerfully twice.
The Australia international eventually scored her first goal of the season when West Ham failed to clear the ball inside the box and Kerr kindly poked in from close range.
Chelsea midfielder Guro Reit was also close, while Bright missed a header before scoring the final goal in what ended up being a comfortable win for the Blues.
